Ferran Torres to PSG was confirmed Saturday, with Paris Saint-Germain announcing the World Cup winner has joined from Barcelona on a five-year contract.
The Champions League titleholder disclosed the transfer in a statement without releasing financial terms. According to French media, PSG is paying the Spanish champion 50 million euros, about 58 million dollars, and Torres will take the No. 9 shirt.
The 26-year-old scored Spain’s decisive goal in extra time of the World Cup final against Argentina, coming off the bench to meet a bouncing ball and fire a left-footed shot under the bar. It was his only strike of the tournament, which he described as a goal “scored by 47 million people,” in reference to Spain’s population.
This marks Torres’s second major move. Barcelona signed him from Manchester City in January 2022 for a reported 55 million euros, after his earlier spell with Valencia. More of a roaming forward than a pure finisher, he recorded 65 goals in 207 appearances for Barcelona, including a career-best 21 across all competitions last season. His contract was due to expire next year, and reports indicated Barcelona would have owed a fee to City in the event of an extension.
Torres briefly overlapped at Barcelona with Ousmane Dembélé, now at PSG. The transfer also reunites him with Spanish coach Luis Enrique, who handed Torres his senior international debut in 2020 while managing Spain. Luis Enrique took charge of PSG in 2023 and has since led the club to consecutive Champions League titles and the French league crown in each of his three seasons at the helm.

PSG’s front line is crowded with choices for Luis Enrique, including Ballon d’Or winner Dembélé, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, who has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and recent arrival Maghnes Akliouche.
Dembélé assisted Doué for the winner against Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, after Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in a 2-1 victory. It was the first of a potential six trophies this season for PSG, which became the first club to secure back-to-back Super Cup titles since Real Madrid in 2016 and 2017.
PSG next meets French Cup winner Lens on Sunday in the Trophée des Champions, the curtain-raiser contested by the previous season’s league and cup holders.
