FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Stephen Curry Li-Ning signature shoe will make its debut early next year, the Golden State Warriors star said Thursday as he discussed his new partnership with the Chinese sportswear brand.
Curry revealed in June that he had signed with Li-Ning after concluding a 13-year run with Under Armour. He described the split as mutual, calling his time with the company “a great run” and adding that he had no regrets.
Explaining his move, Curry said he prioritized longevity, legacy and international reach. According to reports, he agreed to a 10-year, 400 million dollar contract with Li-Ning. He said he evaluated multiple options and ultimately chose Li-Ning because “the product reigned supreme.”
The four-time NBA champion noted he was influenced by Golden State teammate Jimmy Butler and former NBA star Dwyane Wade, both affiliated with Li-Ning. Until his own model is available, Curry plans to wear shoes designed by Butler and Wade.
Stephen Curry Li-Ning deal and Warriors future
Entering his 18th NBA season, Curry said he does not intend to test free agency or retire when his current contract ends in 2027. He reiterated a desire to remain with the Warriors, saying he wants to be a “lifer” in Golden State and continue competing alongside Draymond Green under Coach Steve Kerr. He added that contract matters would “take care of themselves.”
Curry also acknowledged trying to recruit LeBron James after James announced his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers. James ultimately agreed to a two-year, 8 million dollar deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to multiple media reports. Curry said any team would have been wise to reach out given James’ stature and the unusual nature of his free agency.
The comments came during an event at Bethpage Black Golf Course for the Underrated Golf Tour, the national junior circuit Curry founded to expand access for young and underrepresented golfers. Curry said he is in talks with the Versant-owned Golf Channel about televising the tournament for the first time next year.
Curry’s growing interest in golf and the potential for broader media coverage comes as other athletes, including top tennis stars such as Elena Rybakina, expand their profiles beyond their primary sports.
