Amar Dedic Newcastle transfer has been confirmed, with the defender joining from Benfica for about £30 million on a five-year contract.
The 24-year-old completed a medical on Tyneside on Monday before finalising terms. The move reunites him with head coach Matthias Jaissle, under whom he won the Austrian Bundesliga at Red Bull Salzburg in 2023.

Speaking on Tuesday, his 24th birthday, Dedic described the switch as a “special feeling” and said it was a “big honour” to join Newcastle United. He added that he is eager to play in front of the club’s supporters and looked forward to working with Jaissle again, noting the manager understands his qualities and how he fits the team’s approach.
Dedic said playing Premier League football at St James’ Park will be “really special” and that he is excited to get started. Newcastle moved for a right-back after Kieran Trippier’s departure, with the former England international joining Wolverhampton Wanderers on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract earlier in the summer.
Dedic could be involved immediately. Newcastle open their league campaign at home to Liverpool on Sunday, and Tino Livramento remains sidelined with a calf injury sustained on international duty with England in June.
Jaissle said he is “really looking forward” to working with Dedic again. The head coach said he has known the player since his time in Austria and has tracked his progress closely.
According to Jaissle, Dedic offers both defensive and attacking attributes that align with Newcastle’s style, and he praised the right-back’s athleticism, aggression and technical ability, while highlighting further room for development. Jaissle recently guided Newcastle to a winning start in Spain, strengthening expectations around his work with new signings.
