Avengers Endgame Encore has returned to cinemas with added footage, and the new material points squarely toward what Marvel plans next while giving fans fresh reasons to revisit the blockbuster.
The rerelease had collected about $126 million globally by last weekend, taking the film’s lifetime total to roughly $2.925 billion, according to box office tallies. That edges it past Avatar’s reported $2.923 billion worldwide gross. Yet the more notable development is what Marvel inserted into the film and its credits, building momentum toward Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers Endgame Encore expands the closing moments
The original finale ended with Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, dancing with Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter in the 1940s after he used time travel to return to the past. In the new cut, a knock at the door brings Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, who offers help.
Given Loki’s role at the end of his second season holding the multiverse’s branching timelines together, the scene suggests looming trouble significant enough to reach Rogers in retirement.
Banner’s refuge draws an ominous visitor
One mid-credits sequence features Bruce Banner sheltering in an underground facility after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, attempting to keep the Hulk in check. The voice of Robert Downey Jr., portraying Doctor Doom, announces he has come to “collect” Banner.
The scene leaves open whether Doom seeks Banner’s intellect, the Hulk’s strength or something else entirely.
TVA witnesses collapsing realities
A second mid-credits scene shows the Time Variance Authority’s Mobius, OB and Casey watching as countless universes collide and disappear. The reality associated with the 20th Century Fox-era X-Men is among those at risk.
The imagery recalls comic storylines by Jonathan Hickman that culminated in Secret Wars, where incursions destroy universes and Doctor Doom forges remnants into Battleworld. The setup raises the prospect that Avengers: Doomsday could unite the Fox universe, a retro-futuristic Fantastic Four reality and the main MCU, with Doom positioning himself as ruler.
Final stinger evokes Stark and teases Doom in Avengers Endgame Encore
The post-credits coda reimagines Endgame’s original audio farewell, pairing the iconic hammering from Tony Stark’s first Iron Man suit with flashing images that end on Doctor Doom’s mask. The sequence invites speculation about connections between Stark and Doom, or simply aims to associate Stark’s legacy with the threat ahead.
Either way, it signals that Tony Stark’s memory will loom over Doomsday as Marvel introduces its new antagonist.
The cumulative effect is a clearer, darker roadmap. Retirement is uncertain for Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner’s retreat has been interrupted and the multiverse appears to be unraveling.
As Marvel primes audiences for the next chapter, the studio has again turned a victory lap into a bridge to its future slate.
