Filip Nowacki European gold led Great Britain’s haul in Paris as the 18-year-old surged late to capture the men’s 200m breaststroke title at the European Aquatics Championships.
Nowacki clocked 2:07.70, reeling in Dutch contender Caspar Corbeau, who touched in 2:07.78. Austria’s Luka Mladenovic took bronze in 2:08.91, while Britain’s Gregory Butler placed fifth in 2:09.45.
Last month, Nowacki made history for Jersey by winning the 200m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and he extended that form with another major podium in the French capital.

Great Britain added two bronzes on the night. Lauren Cox secured third in the women’s 50m backstroke, a race won by 19-year-old Italian Sara Curtis in a world record 26.56 seconds.
Curtis had already eclipsed Australian Kaylee McKeown’s previous mark by 0.23 seconds with a 26.63 in Wednesday’s semi-finals, then lowered it again to claim the title. France’s Mary-Ambre Moluh took silver in 27.06, with Cox third in 27.15.
Freya Colbert earned bronze in the women’s 200m freestyle, finishing in 1:55.81. The event was won by Barbora Seemanova in a championship record 1:54.38, with the Netherlands’ Marrit Steenbergen second in 1:54.65.
