Ford Q3 2026 earnings came in ahead of Wall Street profit estimates, while revenue was slightly below expectations, the company said Wednesday as it outlined a 2026 outlook broadly consistent with this year and signaled similar profitability in 2027.

The Detroit automaker reported adjusted earnings per share of 49 cents, topping the 40-cent consensus, and automotive revenue of $46.08 billion, just shy of the $46.24 billion analysts projected. Executives said efforts to stabilize F-Series output following supplier disruptions over the past year continued to support results.

“This quarter’s results reflect deliberate actions to improve profitability and deliver consistent financial returns,” Chief Financial Officer Sherry House told reporters on a call.

Ford Q3 2026 earnings and updated guidance

Ford narrowed its 2026 adjusted earnings before interest and taxes outlook to a range of $10.5 billion to $11 billion, compared with a prior range of $10 billion to $11 billion. The company maintained its adjusted free cash flow target for this year of $6 billion to $7 billion.

House said profitability in 2027 is expected to be roughly in line with this year as various headwinds and tailwinds offset. She cited production challenges in 2026, rising commodity costs, and the normalization of certain one-time items.

According to House, a $1.3 billion tariff refund recognized in the first quarter was largely balanced by added costs tied to alternative aluminum sourcing, an expense the company does not anticipate next year, which should help even out year-over-year comparisons.

She added that Super Duty production in Canada in 2027 is expected to offset lost output during F-150 plant retooling for new models.

“Next year will be the third year on our journey of increasing and improving our warranty and material cost savings, and that’s getting extended to structural costs throughout the company as well in terms of savings,” House said.

Segment performance and outlook

Analysts were divided ahead of the report on whether Ford could sustain profitability into 2027. The company faces added costs next year as it launches several new or refreshed vehicles, including its next-generation EV and Canada-built pickups, and expands an energy business introduced earlier this year.

Ford’s slight revenue shortfall in the quarter reflected underperformance versus Street forecasts across all three operating segments, according to third-party estimates: Ford Blue, the Pro commercial unit, and the Model e electric-vehicle business.

Within its updated guidance, Ford now expects pre-tax earnings for Ford Blue of $5.5 billion, the high end of its previous range. It anticipates about $7 billion in EBIT for Ford Pro for the year, and roughly $4 billion in losses for Ford Model e. Ford Credit is projected to generate about $2.8 billion in EBIT for 2026.

Top-line, bottom-line trends

Total company revenue, including Ford Credit, declined about 2% from the prior-year quarter to $49.5 billion. Net income fell by roughly $400 million year over year to $2 billion. Adjusted EBIT ticked up to $2.7 billion from a year earlier.

For the comparable period a year ago, Ford reported automotive revenue of $47.19 billion, net income of $2.4 billion, and adjusted earnings per share of 45 cents.

Ford’s results arrive as the broader industry confronts shifting demand for EVs, with some rivals contending that gas shock and policy shifts are squeezing electric vehicle sales. Investors are watching how Ford’s profitability targets intersect with consumer adoption trends and regulatory pressures in the years ahead.

Ford continues to position its lineup and financing operations to navigate these crosscurrents, while competitors such as General Motors also balance EV investments with demand signals. How effectively legacy automakers manage that transition will shape earnings trajectories through 2027 and beyond.
