Georgia attorney arrested is the focus after authorities in Albany said a former practitioner was taken into custody Tuesday on multiple felony counts, months after she faced disciplinary action from the state’s highest court and surrendered her law license.
According to investigators with the Albany Police Department, Je’Nita Nakia Lane, 46, has been charged with theft by deception, forgery, identity theft fraud, and computer theft. The allegations stem from two separate clients who were involved in auto collisions and retained Lane’s firm, the J. Lane Law Group, for representation.

Investigators allege Lane retained insurance settlement checks in both matters. She was arrested and booked into the Dougherty County Jail, authorities said.
Months before the arrest, the Georgia Supreme Court accepted Lane’s voluntary surrender of her law license. Court filings show she admitted that in one case she was holding $199,045.41 in client settlement funds intended to resolve a Medicaid lien. She acknowledged violating Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct governing client funds and trust accounts.
Police urged anyone who retained Lane and did not receive funds they believe are owed to contact investigators, noting there could be additional complainants.
