Marco Island water leak alerts have been temporarily disabled after the city reported a billing software problem linked to the Advanced Metering Infrastructure system that transmits real-time usage data to customers.
The Marco Island Water and Sewer Department completed a transition to AMI water meters in 2025. According to a city statement, the technology enables more precise consumption readings and can notify customers of potential leaks or unusually high use.
In recent days, some residents received high consumption notices that signaled a spike in usage or a possible leak. City officials said the consumption alerts were turned off while a technical issue affecting the billing platform that communicates with the smart meters is addressed.
The city advised that if customers continue to receive an alert, there may be a genuine leak. Residents can contact customer service for confirmation and assistance. Officials added that accounts showing an invalid spike in usage will not be charged for water that was not consumed. For verified leaks that increased a bill, the city’s billing adjustment policy allows customers to request an adjustment.
Written requests must be filed within 90 days of the billing period in question and include proof of repair payment. Adjustments are limited to two within a 36‑month period. Customers with concerns or who have received an alert can call customer service at 239-394-3880.
Marco Island water leak alerts and FC Naples playoff update
An energized crowd of 3,217 filled Paradise Coast Sports Complex last weekend as FC Naples secured a 1-0 victory over Spokane Velocity FC, clinching a place in the USL League One Playoffs for the second consecutive season. Substitute No. 10 Andrés Ferrín scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time with a right-footed shot from outside the area.
The result marked FC Naples’ sixth straight win and lifted the club to eighth in the final regular-season table. The team now faces top-seeded Charlotte Independence in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The match doubled as Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by LMCU. Players wore pink kits and fans turned the stands pink. During halftime, LMCU donated 5,000 dollars to support Naples Cancer Advisors’ outreach and community programs.
The contest remained tight throughout. In the first half, No. 14 Kevin O’Connor struck the right post, and after the break Spokane goalkeeper Sean Lewis denied efforts from No. 21 Marc Torrellas, No. 3 Julian Cisneros and No. 9 Gio Miglietti. At the other end, FC Naples captain and goalkeeper No. 1 Edward “Lalo” Delgado made six saves, including consecutive stops on Neco Brett in the 83rd minute and a late save on a Camron Miller header moments before the winner.
Ferrín, who came on in the 56th minute, converted a pass from fellow substitute No. 8 Juan Osorio to the bottom left corner for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Head Coach Zak Gordon said the club had focused on turning an “impossible” task into an “unforgettable” run to the postseason.
FC Naples now prepares for Charlotte Independence, which finished atop the league on 66 points. Charlotte won both meetings in June. Delgado said the team respects the opponent but enters the playoffs in strong form, similar to how underdogs such as League Two side have used momentum in knockout competition.
The club’s playoff berth continues the growth of USL League One as a competitive professional league in the American soccer pyramid.
