The Wisconsin State Fair is helping bridge the gap between consumers and farmers, according to the 79th Alice in Dairyland, who says the event offers approachable ways to learn about how food is produced.
Anastasia Poull said fair food can open the door to conversations about agriculture and how staples reach the table. She noted that many visitors do not see the process behind everyday items such as milk or a cheeseburger. When people visit the Wisconsin State Fair, she hopes they gain a look behind the scenes of food production.
Poull said the fair features several exhibits that highlight the breadth of the state’s farm sector. She pointed to Dairy Lane as a key stop that showcases Wisconsin dairy, including dairy cows and dairy goats. Visitors can participate in interactive educational displays, and daily milking demonstrations for both species are scheduled throughout the fair.
She added that the event also provides moments to celebrate agriculture, from featured exhibits in the Coliseum to youth showrings where young exhibitors take early steps in their agricultural journeys.
The Wisconsin State Fair runs through August 16.
