Russian attacks in Ukraine left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity after overnight strikes hit energy infrastructure in four regions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

In a statement posted on X, Zelenskyy reported that facilities in Dnipro, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyi were struck. He said substations, transformers, and power lines supplying homes were targeted and that repair crews were working across the affected areas.

“As of now, hundreds of thousands of families remain without power,” Zelenskyy said Sunday, adding that massive strikes on other critical infrastructure were continuing.

He described the intensity of the bombardment as very high and accused Russia of trying to capitalize on Ukraine’s shortage of interceptors to counter ballistic missiles.

Russian attacks in Ukraine strain air defenses

Zelenskyy renewed his appeal to the United States, European countries, and other partners to accelerate deliveries of missiles and additional weaponry to strengthen air defenses against the Russian attacks.

“These deliveries cannot take years. Russia is destroying infrastructure and killing our people right now, and it is betting on ballistic missiles this winter. Accordingly, decisions on air defense must also be implemented now,” he said.
